backup applications

Best Practice: Backups

If your computer or phone has an issue or goes missing, will you lose all your pictures, contacts, and text messages? Will you lose your tax returns, business documentation, or Grandma’s recipes? If you’re a victim of ransomware, will you or your business lose everything?

It takes less than an hour to reduce the risk of these things happening to you.

Setup an automated, scheduled backup of your files and operating system. There are many ways to achieve this (depending on importance and sensitivity of ones data) but I have been very happy with a free application called Veeam for Windows that copies files to an external hard drive. Generally these external hard drives cost about $60.00 (but can be more expensive as more space is needed).

If possible, keep your backup in a place other than where your data is kept. Companies like Backblaze make it both easy and inexpensive.
